Rock am Ring Postponed Due To Terrorist Threat

Germany's biggest rock and metal festival Rock am Ring was slated to begin today, but has been postponed due to terrorist threats.

An official statement from the festival reads:

“On the basis of a terroristic threat, the police has provided that the organizer of Rock am Ring that the festival should be interrupted in the event of an attack. Therefore, all visitors were asked to leave the festival grounds in a controlled and quiet direction towards exits and campsites.

The organizer is constantly informing about the further development of social media, media and radio. The organizers hope to be able to continue Rock am Ring tomorrow.”

The festival has been ongoing since 1985, and while dates have been cancelled in the past (including last year where lightning strikes injured many), this is the first time a terrorist threat has caused the festival to cancel any dates. The festival was to run all weekend from today until Sunday. The sister festival Rock im Park is continuing as normal and it is the hope of the organizers to keep the festival going for the rest of the weekend.

Today's headliner Rammstein has cancelled in the wake of events, while other acts including Broilers, Bastille, and Five Finger Death Punch will likely not perform either. Tomorrow's headliner will be Die Toten Hosen, with Beatsteaks and Kratftklub going on before them. System Of A Down will take out the festival on Sunday, with Prophets Of Rage and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis playing before them.
