JID Gets Real In "DiCaprio 2"

It’s not uncommon to hear some moodier hip-hop nowadays, but we’re definitely missing a familiar sense of it having that harsh bite. JID has finally delivered an album where it’s not all just bark and no bite. JID gets real in DiCaprio 2, bringing some powerful tracks that leave quite a mark.

What’s most charming about DiCaprio 2 is that you can tell this comes from his heart. The warmhearted intro ‘Frequency Change‘ is a skit, but it’s done right: it builds character and serves as a funny intro to the album. ‘Slick Talk‘ follows up as is anything but funny. JID brings his best right from the start of the song, the beat delivering some awesome and unique vibes itself. Things really get going from there, ‘Westbrook‘ with A$AP Ferg delivering another great beat and more excellent flow and ‘Off Deez‘ with J. Cole bringing some quickfire bars with much appreciated wordplay.

DiCaprio 2 really doesn’t stop delivering. The lowest point of the record is ‘Skrawberries‘ with BJ The Chicago Kid, and even then this chiller song adds a nice touch to the record. Beats and melodies continue to shine throughout the record, especially with ‘Tiiied‘ featuring 6LACK and Ella Mai and ‘Just Da Other Day.’ JID gets darker on some numbers, ‘Hot Box‘ putting him, 'Joey Bada$$, and Method Man on a bluesy beat. ‘Workin Out‘ has a similarly funky and energetic vibe. Even closing track ‘Despacito Too,’ which from the title you wouldn’t expect much from, ends the record on a great note with more awesome delivery.

JID gets real in DiCaprio 2, bringing some heavy and dynamic tracks while delivering straight from the heart. The music is fun and a great sound in a world dominated by trap rap. Perhaps this’ll be the new trend, because this is what really works.
