Ariana Grande Fires Back At Pete Davidson In 'thank u, next'

No stars’ relationship has been more public than Ariana Grande‘s and Pete Davidson’s. They were the headline of every gossip outlet since they started dating in June, and subsequently got engaged in August. Even after they broke up last month, the world can’t stop talking about them. Davidson made a joke about their relationship falling apart in one of this week’s Saturday Night Live promos, and Grande was not happy. So, on the same day she announced her next album. Ariana Grande fires back at Pete Davidson in ‘thank u, next,’ the lead single from her next record.

Everything about the release of this song is hilarious. From not letting Davidson get the upper hand by releasing this track 30 minutes before the episode of SNL airs to literally thanking all of her exes in the tracks (while also roasting Davidson), Grande truly lives up to her Dangerous Woman persona. The sweet track isn’t anything special instrumentally: it’s a pretty standard track with soft synths and a light beat.

The lyrics are where the song’s real punch comes: the first verse recalls all of her exes: “Thought I'd end up with Sean, but it wasn't a match / Wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh / Even almost got married; And for Pete, I'm so thankful / Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel.“ Grande slams most of her exes, while sweetly remembering the late Mac Miller as well. A majority of the song is spent sarcastically thanking her exes, the chorus coming in strong, chanting “Thank you, next / I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex.”

If there’s one thing to take away from Ariana Grande: don’t mess with her. She fires back at PEte Davidson in ‘thank u, next,’ her new song that not only destroys the boys who did her wrong, but is also the lead single from her new album. Ariana Grande is a powerful woman. Don’t mess with her.
